Join AIPA

The Australian Indigenous Psychologists Association (AIPA) welcomes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander psychologists and psychology students to join our membership.

Full membership is available for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander psychologists (including provisionally registered) and Associate membership is available for those associated with the profession of psychology (e.g. psychology students).

Membership categories and eligibility criteria

The membership eligibility criteria and conditions outlined below emphasise the intent and identity of AIPA as a voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander psychologists, and advocating on behalf of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with respect to the field and profession of psychology in Australia.

AIPA Full membership

An individual is eligible to apply for membership with AIPA if they meet the following conditions:

  • Are a Psychologist registered with AHPRA (including provisionally registered), or a retired Psychologist of good standing with a significant relationship to the Corporation.
  • Are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
  • Are at least 18 years old

This membership is free to join.


AIPA Associate membership

An individual is eligible to apply for associate membership with AIPA if they meet the following conditions:

  • Are associated with the profession of psychology to the satisfaction of the Board of Directors (e.g. studying psychology at university).
  • Are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
  • Are at least 18 years old.

This membership is free to join.

Associate members have the same rights and responsibilities as full members but are not entitled to vote at meetings of the corporation and are not eligible to be a director

Application Process

To become a full or associate member of AIPA please complete and submit the following documents

  • An AIPA membership form
  • Statutory declaration
  • Attach a copy of a Board endorsed Confirmation of Aboriginality Certificate.

The AIPA membership forms & statutory declaration can be downloaded below, to be filled out digitally or printed.
